NSD-S Hub director engages virtually with KAIPTC Commandant, Major General Francis Ofori, to explore common interests and potential future cooperation.
Since 2004 more than 18.000 military personnel, police and civilians have been trained by The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) (@KaiptcGh). It is the second highest-ranked African Think Tank in the 2020 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report in the Foreign Policy and International Affairs category1. The Centre is one of the three Peacekeeping Training Centres of Excellence mandated by Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to offer training in peacekeeping and peace support operations (PSO) in Africa.
An aspiration of the NATO Strategic Direction South Hub ("the Hub") is to be a docking station to generate and foster information sharing and understanding of the security dynamics in Africa and the Middle East. To achieve this, the Hub has continued building and maintaining its network by connecting and consulting with entities in Africa and the Middle East, and this engagement with KAIPTC is part of this task.
The Hub and KAIPTC have collaborated previously, beginning in 2018, where staff members from both entities participated in events and shared projects. KAIPTC is a prime example of an institution with in-depth understanding of the region based on experience, academic rigour and training excellence. Their perspective and expertise is critical to gain better understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the region and for the promotion stability, peace and sustainable development.
In accordance with continuing efforts to strengthen the network, on 10 February 2021 the Hub Director, Brigadier General Davide Re, and the KAIPTC Commandant,
Major General Francis Ofori, had a virtual engagement to get better acquainted and explore common interests and efforts which could enable future cooperation, such as the realms of maritime security and Women and Youth in Peace and Security, amongst others.
The Hub is firmly committed to continuing the development of such relationships and deepening its ties in the network. Many thanks to the KAIPTC Commandant and staff for the wonderful opportunity provided by this virtual engagement.
