NATO Strategic Direction – South Hub was present in the traditional Marrakech Security Forum, which was co-organized by Moroccan Centre for Strategic Studies (CMES) and the African Federation of Strategic Studies. The event that brought around the table more than 120 participants from many African and European countries was held on February 7-8, 2020.
The 11th edition of annual conference was held under the auspices of His Majesty Moroccan King Mohammed VI and this year was called "Africa amidst terrorism and globalized threats". The speakers from Bahrein, Benin, Senegal, Nigeria, France, The Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Burkina-Faso, Egypt, Germany, Morocco, Mauritania, Chad, Niger, Benin, Algeria and Burundi discussed the great variety of issues, such as intelligence in the age of globalization and globalized threats, African strategic prospects amid fragile balances, informational wars, new techniques, means and practices of terrorism, effects of climate change, gender dimension in the prevention and fight against communitarianism and violent radicalism, the Moroccan diplomacy model of defense and security and many others.
All the speakers were high ranking decision makers, civil servants, generals as well as experts from academic community. Along with the lectures, the representatives of the Hub had many bilateral meetings with participants of the conference. The new contacts will contribute to higher effectiveness of Hub's activities in the future.
