May 21, 2019
1. Headquarters, Supreme Allied Command Transformation (HQ SACT) and NATO Strategic Direction South (NSD-S) Hub will host a Study Day on "The Impacts of Climate Change on Stability in Middle East and North Africa (MENA)” in Naples, Italy on 30 May 2019. The aim of this Study Day is to better understand future challenges emanating from medium-long term climate change in MENA.
2. This event is one of a number of Open Perspectives Exchange Network (OPEN) and NSD-S Hub events. This Study Day will allow non-classified human networks to exchange views and ideas freely amongst NATO and non-NATO people and organizations, bringing together non-NATO and non-military communities of interest outside normal military channels. We hope to improve NATO`s strategic understanding whilst also strengthening NATO`s ability to federate with non-NATO actors.
3. Leading regional academics and subject matter experts will also attend in order to help understand how climate change could influence instability/stability in MENA. Three specific themes will be explored: Theme 1. How climate change could lead to social transformations. Theme 2. How climate change could lead to economic transformations. Theme 3. How climate change could lead to security challenges.
