Background

Over the past decade, the MENA region has invested in regional space technology and capabilities. These provide critical infrastructure for essential applications, such as the management of natural and human-made disasters.

The ability to use space-based information to tackle various hazards is gaining in importance in the region, particularly due to the recent increase in both extreme natural events exacerbated by climate change and demographic developments. Such disastrous events are characterized by the vulnerability of physical processes which ultimately leads to severe financial loss.

Through working together with regional actors, NATO seeks to establish a shared understanding of the current circumstances. This study day aims to help identify opportunities for future cooperation to promote security and stability in the region.
