From the 18thto 20th February, 2018, the HUB participated at the dialogue meeting "The New Geopolitics Of Peace Operations III: Organized Crime” that was held in Dakar, Senegal that was organized by The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES). This dialogue meeting is part of a series of dialogue events hosted by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) in cooperation with the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), that seek to enhance understanding about UN and non-UN peace operations and non-traditional security challenges–terrorism and violent extremism, irregular migration, piracy, organized  crime and environmental degradation. Mr. Aguilera, Hub representative, contributed to the first day session in the "Peace operations and the challenges of organized crime: who does what?” panel and subsequent debate. This session aimed to provide an overview of how different actors that conduct peace operations in complex environments deal with, and respond to, challenges related to the presence of organized crime groups, and to organized crime in general by providing a brief overview of the activities that the peace operations deployed by different organizations are undertaking to address the drivers and consequences of organized crime, the motivations behind this, and the challenges they confront in doing so. In addition to the representative of the HUB representatives of UN, AU, EU, and OSCE participated in this session. Mr. Aguilera  took this opportunity to inform the audience about the current status of the NSD-S Hub, short, medium and long-term goals the NSD-S Hub envisages for the year to come. He also described  how the NSD-S Hub plans to interact with different institutions, organizations and partners with the aim of strengthening a mutual beneficial  two-way relationship.
